Most companies are struggling to survive these days just as most people are. Anybody can be out of business at anytime without much notice. As far as companies saving the US, most things are going to computer based which will end up being a HUGE mistake simply because it is putting everyone out of business. As far as the brands that Americans desire, some on the list are things you use everyday and some are lifestyle items so some I agree with and others I question.
It is very hard to say if a certain company will or can save the US.....Same with whether the companies will disappear or not since everything can be unpredictable especially with the economy in it's current state. The brands that made the Most Desired Brands list was not very surprising as the brands really have strong brand awareness among consumers. Though there are other choices out there, at the end of the day it depends on the individual buyer.
I was actually really surprised with some of these results. I definitely think that if the companies that are making billions and billions of dollars would actually want to help their local and global economies then they could make a significant impact on those economies. The products that people wanted the most was surprising because I would never have thought National Geographic would be one of them. Yes, I know that this is a very popular venture but I never dreamed that it would be one of the most desirable brands. Due to the economy a lot of companies are struggling. Any company that does not have a good customer base or loyalty could be at risk. Other companies that are not keeping up with today's trends or technology advances.
For my perspective, I do not think some certain companies will save the United Stated from the financial crisis. Yes, the big brands such as Microsoft, Google and Boeing do have great impacts on the global economics, but they still follow the trend of economic globalization. In a long-run, maybe it is easier for these companies themselves to be successful internationally, but it does not mean that they will still make great efforts on the performance of the United States’ economic growing. On the other hand, some companies maybe no longer exist in the future. For example, the Office Depot. To be honest with you, I have only gone there once and I do not think I will go there anymore. Compared to other stores that sell school and office supplies, the Office Depot is a little old-fashioned. Moreover, it is much expensive. I agree that if some companies do not follow the current trend of the market and satisfy their customers, they will fail in competition.
Many of the companies on the list to potentially disappear did not surprise me. Some of them had not been innovating in years compared to their competitors (as an example, Borders totally ignored the e-book market that Barnes & Noble sucessfully pursued and captured). Some did not adequately position their brand in the minds of consumers, at least in recent years (such as Gateway, Dean Foods, and Answer Corp). Others simply had an inadequate value proposition in that their offerings were only as good as or worse than their competitors' offerings (Office Depot, Saab, etc.).
Borders has already filed for bankruptcy and is out. If the rest want to survive, they're going to have to do a better job of positioning their brand in consumers' minds, innovating, and improving their value proposition.
I am not sure about these companies saving the US economy. Most of these companies are technology based, and while these are the companies that would do well because technology is the future. But if people do not have jobs, they are not going to be able to buy a new program from Microsoft or if oil prices keep spiking, many people are not going to fly which would hurt Boeing. I was very surprised by the top list of brands Americans desire. I would not have picked several of these that made the list, like Kleenex. The companies that are disappearing did not surprise me. Borders, Gateway, and SAAB have been declining for years. And I am surprised Social Security has not failed yet.
I dont think that any brands or company's can save the US econonmy. With alot of the companies mentioned being technology based I dont see it helping the unemployment numbers or even creating any new jobs if not cutting out jobs that people used to do that computers can now do. I also think that no company is going to last forever and can crumble to the ground in weeks if not days. I strongly believe that the economy needs a complete makeover not just bandaids to keep it from falling apart. You have to fix the major problems not just try to cover them up.
I don't think that any company could save the economy, but I do think that it could help it out in little ways. Even though most are technology based, we can still find ways to create jobs for people using the technology to our advantage. As for the most desired brands, I was actually pretty surprised with some of the selections.
I dont think it will save the United States. We are so far in debt ansd everybody mnoving to overseas for lower labor cost has crippled us. Every company now is looking to eliminate posistions and make more stuff computerized. Businesses are in it for themselves in my opinion and are not worried about everyday people. Owners of anything are worried about padding their pockets.
As far as any company saving the U.S. economy, anything is possible, but it's not going to happen. In order to save something, you typically have to give up something. The way our society spends money and demands things to be readily available it's going to take decades to bring the economy out and ahead. Things are floating into the Internet leaving some businesses to close multiple stores, in return positions are being eliminated.
Today's society, for the most part, is about the here and now. Everything is all about technology, what's going to happen when we reach the point that all of our resources have been converted to being computerized. The stores listed as becoming obsolete, are now considered a thing in the past. We need the next generation type store. Just like farms are now hard to find in some places. Where are we going to produce our food? Farmlands are now apartment complexes, houses, business building, etc. Are we really thinking about our future or are we thinking about what we want right now. Someone else can deal with the produce, social security, and technical difficulties, when we cross that bridge later in life. Things we need to think about now. Done with my little tangent.
I believe in the innovative motivation of the top companies listed. While "saving" the US economy is no simple task, their push will hopefully better the American way, eventually leading to more jobs and a better quality of life. As far as the top brands go, I'm very surprised to see which brands the people desire. Specifically, I'm surprised both men and women's top 5 brand desires include National Geographic. I don't know the last time I saw a National Geographic or cared to look at one. Most of the brands listed surprised me. Finally, for the diminishing companies, I could see nearly any of those disappearing in the coming year. As heavy as competition gets and as those companies are taking a smaller and smaller piece of the pie in their industry, it is very realistic for them to fade out in the coming year(s).
It was hard to say yes or no to some of those things. I guess a lot of the time it is who you ask that actually knows more about the situation than you do. I'd never thought Etrade was in troulbe, look at how much they still advertise. Social Security? I know people that work for social security and they believe it will be fine. It was very interesting the different things that were picked. MOST of them I would've never guessed.
With the economy fluctuating so much, to me it makes sense that half the companies proposed to save it are online/internet business like Google, Microsoft, IBM, Intel and GE. They get the most customer interactions probably day to day. The brands most craved by men and women surprised me because they were chosen mostly based on emotions and a sense of comfort. Its funny that two brands for men were cars and one for women was mastercard. The companies going out of business in a way didn't surprise me because for one, half of them I had never even heard of so they probably don't advertise enough, and two if they were recognizable they might want to go out of business because they have such tough competetors.
Wow. Interesting articles. I think the listed companies are definitely capable of saving the U.S. economy. Windows is the leading OS, Intel is the leading processor, Boeing for transportation, Pfizer for medical research, GE for medical technology, and Monsanto for agriculture. These are all giants in essential industries. I was really surprised by male choices for most desired brands. I thought BMW was a good choice, because I think it's reasonable to say that every man in America would love to own a BMW. But Crest and Hyundai? Did someone throw darts for the selection of these brands? I was not shocked by the companies susceptible to disappearing. They were all smaller companies--relative to their industry--that probably won't have a profitable future. I think the answer to the survey said it best, at this point there are not many companies that are immune to disappearing.
It is possible that I have been living in a hole but I have never even heard of some of the companies listed and there were at least two that I thought had already turned in the towel. I was very surprised at the most desired brands also, it makes me wander where the data was pulled from for the selections of these brands.
Saying yes or no to those 10 companies bringing the us out of the hole we are in is a hard quesiton to answer. Personally I answered no because I think that it is going to take more than just a few companies to bring us out of the recession. Of course they could play a role in this but I just don't think it lies solely on them. As far as the brands that we most desire I thought some of those were interesting. I never expected klenexes to be on that. Some of those brands I could relate too and others im just not to fond of.
I personally don't believe that these companies can bring the United States out of the recession and save the economy. They could play a part in helping but that's not all it would take. I was a suprised by some of the most desired brands. Like many other people, I couldn't see Kleenex making the list, maybe because it's a brand that just there and I don't really think of it that often. I could see Johnson & Johnson making the list though. There is alot of customer and brand loyalty there. As for the companies that could disappear, I believe that any company could disappear, especially in today's market and current economy.
By voting yes to the first question, my thoughts were that those companies, bringing in as much revenue and giving as many jobs as it does, would help stimulate the economy. The way through a recession is by putting more money into the economy, and that is what these companies are doing. The most desired brands were surprising; there are a few brands I would consider popular because of how familiar we are through childhood with them, but other than that the brand of cars and the tv show is shocking to me. As far as the companies that are disappearing, it is just a fact that the economy is dealing with right now. Any company that decreases in sales to a certain point will be a disappearing company, so no, it wouldn't surprise me unless a marketing turn-around happened for those companies that they would disappear.

With the first question I was surprised by some of the companies that were involved with this poll. I was also surprised by the lack of some companies. I think that Google is the strongest of these companies because it is such a huge corporation, and I feel that if they expand in any market they will be maybe one of the strongest in the world. The second question did not surprise me that many of these companies are the most desired brands. Johnson & Johnson is a huge company when it comes to babies, so any family wants to be a Johnson&Johnson family. BMW is very understandable being in this category because they are high end luxury vehicles, but the most affordable of most luxury brands. The companies that are disappearing some of these companies i feel will definately disappear because they are not well known now. Other companies that are pretty well-known like Sara Lee I do not see disappearing anytime soon in the future.
For the first question, I do not see these companies saving the U.S. I see the U.S. not surviving without these companies plus the help of many other companies. Most of the companies listed are technology based but without the other companies providing jobs then technology will not be needed. For the second question, I see some of these companies disappearing for instance Sara Lee. I hardly ever purchase these products and would imagine a lot of other people do not. Some of the companies like Johnson and Johnson will continue to thrive and BMW will come more into the picture in the coming years.
As high as the debt rate is in the United States, I don't think one or particular companies can save the United States economy. Companies have varying degrees of profit margins and some tend to go bankrupt, while others thrive on continuous profit contributions. Some of the companies on the list were surprising because I did not realize they had high brand loyalty compared to others.
I do not think it is up to particular companies to save the U.S. economy. To try and make a statement on that just regarding a company's performance would be ignoring lots of other contributing factors. As far as the brand loyalies: very surprising. I would not give brands like kleenax and crest much of a fighting chance, but looks like they pulled it off. And for the companies with potential to dissappear. I don't see them leaving us in the immediate future. I certainly wouldn't attribute it to the economy. I could see them dissapearing many years into the future due to changing trends.
These were some very interesting articles. The first I wasn't very suprives with but the second and third were quite interesting. I was very surprised to see Crest be the number one brand that men prefer. Also, the lists of companies that could disappear was pretty obvious. A lot of those you can tell are going under, many have closed several stores nationwide. One I found very interesting was Sara Lee.
I dont believe these companies can save the US economy. We as a country are 14 trillion in debt. Let me write that out for you guys/girls $14,000,000,000,000.00 i dont know about you all but seeing that really makes me wonder how long this country can stay a float going in the direction we are. These companies would have to sacrifies so much and we know that is not going to happen. Not to mention our government has to get their shit together and stop fighting each other and start working together or the USA will break, maybe not in our lives but our childrens lives.
I don't believe just these companies will save the US economy. They will for sure not hurt the economy but any company at any point can have a bad turn around make a few bad business decisions and all of the sudden begin a downward spiral. No company is ever safe there must be good business even if a company is expanding by leaps and bounds if they are just starting out they could have a hard time keeping up with demand so I say they alone will not save the US economy.
America was based on innovation and invented the newest greatest technology. Lockheed Martin, Boeing, most of the companies make stuff for the army which has given us some of the best inventions of our lifetime. Companies like Google and 3M(Creator of post its), give their employees days to just sit there and innovate. So they will create the next thing for out economy.
If not these companies it could be another company that comes out of no where to boost the country. Hewlett-Packard and huge company was created during the Great Depression, look at how strong of a company it is now.
As for the companies that might not be here for much longer. Some of them you can tell why, such with Borders, with the invention of E-books, people do not need hard copies. E-books are easier to keep in storage and cheaper to buy.
I think these companies can save our economy or atleast help it get better. These companies make large amounts of revenue. Consumers spending money will help out our economy a lot. That's what has stopped us from getting better. People have stopped spending money. I don't think it will ever get completely fixed but these companies can help.
With their revenues in the billons, these large companies surely have an impact on the economy. As to whether or not they could actually save it is a toss up. Companies that previously had been very large and were never thought to go under such as GM did face struggles so what could make someone think another large company could not face the same. I was not surprised at many of the brands listed as most desirable. Many were common everyday items such as Kleenex and Crest toothpaste. As for the brands that may disappear in 2011, anything is possible. Most companies on the list you could tell in recent years they were facing hard times. One company I was surprised to not see would be blockbuster. One that did however surprise me was Sara Lee.
I don't feel that any one to ten companies can completely turn around the U.S. economy. We have such a large deficit that these companies can not possibly generate trillions of dollars. They have the potential to help the economy. But it will take much more than a few companies to truly help this economy.
Companies to save US: I think some big global companies could have some effect on the economics of the U.S, but they are not enough to save the current economy. They may be the next one to disappear. Most desired brand: this provides some interesting brands to me. Like for men, the top one is Crest over BMW! Crest is also very popular in China. Companies could disappear: Some mergences causes the disappearance of the brand, as as Gateway which makes me think that: Will all mergence accomplish the goal of the company?
Though it's difficult to analyze if companies have the potential to save a "whole" economy, I don't find it completely crazy to see these companies continuing to grow and help stabilize the economy in coming years. Nearly all of these companies are technology based and will continue to be required in coming years.
As for the "Most Desirable Brands" I was surprised by quite a few. The one that caught me most off guard was that Tide showed up on the male list but not female. It's quite interesting to read about how these studies were conducted of the course of years and through around 4,000 consumer surveys. I believe these are results that companies need to pay attention to and react to with their marketing in the future.
Though it's hard to predict the future of companies, especially in the position our economy is currently in, I felt that all of these companies mentioned were quite relevant. It mentions that some may not completely turn over, but be sold off in sections because that would be the most profitable approach by the company.
I feel as if some brands represented were based on popular attitudes, not numbers. I'm pretty sure that hyundai isnt among the top 3, 4, or And even 5 most sold automobiles in the U.S. Likewise, Mastercard has far less card holders than that of visa. I was looking for Proctor and Gamble, or Frito-Lay, but they weren't included.
However, I believe the brands represented will have long lifes as business everywhere they are, it just wasn't what i was expecting. Sony, kleenex, and even Johnson and Johnson made sense, but the others not so much.
I found the most favorable brands article really interesting. It was really odd that National Geographic was on both lists, but it was especilly surprising to be on the women's list. I can see how Kleenex was on the list for women though. And I can understand why BMW was on the list for men. Crest surprised me, especially with it being in the top spot.
I wasn't too surprised with the names on the list. I know many people including myself that are very loyal customers and trust those names. I do not think it is up to an company to save the economy. That's almost as outrageous as saying one person can save the economy. Unless it's Bill Gates
I think it would take a whole lot for any company to save the US economy, but I do think they could help push it forward a lot. Like most others, I was surprised by some of the companies on the most desired list, because some few them were companies that you don't really think of too often. Also, I believe at this state of the economy it is possible for any company to disappear.
I think I was most surprised with Kleenex and National Geographic being on the top ten list, but the others didn't surprise me at all. Most all of them have been around for many decades and have established names and have adapted to fit whatever trends are existant. However, any company at this point could fail due to our economy. I do think that those first ten companies could save the economy, but they could also make the economy suffer further if we rely too much on them to pull us out of a rut.
I think that any company large or small could disappear the way the economy is going. All companies are at risk if they don't take steps to protect themselves. Like wise I don't think that 10 companies can pull us out of your economic state it will take everyone working together government companies and the people to pull together to get us out of our economic downfall.
With the economy the way it is right now it is very hard to tell if comapnies will remain open or not, many major comapnies are slowly disappearing. I feel that these comapnies might help America or than hurt them, but I dont think they can save them.
I was moderately surprised by the top 10 brands most people desire, upon seeing that I immediately thought of all the expensive brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach, etc. As for the brands that are disappearing, to me the big shock was ETRADE. With all of the advertisements and good incentives, I felt like they would still be around.
I wasn't expecting those top 10 popular brands. These are all established companies, but, in my opinion, they do not fall in alignment with the modern image our society has. I couldn't believe Natural Geographic was on there. They're focusing on common household products. Why isn't Apple on that list? Panasonic or Sony is nowhere as near as strong as that company. Any one company (or even 10) will not pull us out of a economic crisis.
The most important issue with every company is whether they can stay on top of their competition and keep up with the fast paced economy. The consumer market changes very fast compared to 30 years ago. One style can be great today and tomorrow out the door.

ReplyDeleteThe second question did not surprise me that many of these companies are the most desired brands.
ReplyDeleteFor the second question, I see some of these companies disappearing for instance Sara Lee.
ReplyDeleteI do not think it is up to particular companies to save the U.S. economy. To try and make a statement on that just regarding a company's performance would be ignoring lots of other contributing factors.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the brand loyalies: very surprising.
ReplyDeleteI dont believe these companies can save the US economy.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe just these companies will save the US economy.
ReplyDeleteAmerica was based on innovation and invented the newest greatest technology. Lockheed Martin, Boeing, most of the companies make stuff for the army which has given us some of the best inventions of our lifetime. Companies like Google and 3M(Creator of post its), give their employees days to just sit there and innovate. So they will create the next thing for out economy.
ReplyDeleteIf not these companies it could be another company that comes out of no where to boost the country.
ReplyDeleteWith their revenues in the billons, these large companies surely have an impact on the economy.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel that any one to ten companies can completely turn around the U.S. economy. We have such a large deficit that these companies can not possibly generate trillions of dollars. They have the potential to help the economy. But it will take much more than a few companies to truly help this economy.
ReplyDeleteCompanies to save US: I think some big global companies could have some effect on the economics of the U.S, but they are not enough to save the current economy. They may be the next one to disappear.
ReplyDeleteMost desired brand: this provides some interesting brands to me.
ReplyDeleteAs for the "Most Desirable Brands" I was surprised by quite a few.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I believe the brands represented will have long lifes as business everywhere they are, it just wasn't what i was expecting.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't too surprised with the names on the list. I know many people including myself that are very loyal customers and trust those names. I do not think it is up to an company to save the economy. That's almost as outrageous as saying one person can save the economy. Unless it's Bill Gates
ReplyDeleteKayla Williams
I think it would take a whole lot for any company to save the US economy, but I do think they could help push it forward a lot. Like most others, I was surprised by some of the companies on the most desired list, because some few them were companies that you don't really think of too often. Also, I believe at this state of the economy it is possible for any company to disappear.
ReplyDeleteI think I was most surprised with Kleenex and National Geographic being on the top ten list, but the others didn't surprise me at all. Most all of them have been around for many decades and have established names and have adapted to fit whatever trends are existant. However, any company at this point could fail due to our economy. I do think that those first ten companies could save the economy, but they could also make the economy suffer further if we rely too much on them to pull us out of a rut.
ReplyDeleteI think that any company large or small could disappear the way the economy is going. All companies are at risk if they don't take steps to protect themselves. Like wise I don't think that 10 companies can pull us out of your economic state it will take everyone working together government companies and the people to pull together to get us out of our economic downfall.
ReplyDeleteWith the economy the way it is right now it is very hard to tell if comapnies will remain open or not, many major comapnies are slowly disappearing. I feel that these comapnies might help America or than hurt them, but I dont think they can save them.
ReplyDeleteI was moderately surprised by the top 10 brands most people desire, upon seeing that I immediately thought of all the expensive brands like Louis Vuitton, Coach, etc. As for the brands that are disappearing, to me the big shock was ETRADE. With all of the advertisements and good incentives, I felt like they would still be around.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't expecting those top 10 popular brands.
ReplyDeleteThe most important issue with every company is whether they can stay on top of their competition and keep up with the fast paced economy. The consumer market changes very fast compared to 30 years ago. One style can be great today and tomorrow out the door.
